Mallorca Island Tour: Is a Private Day Trip Worth It?

A Mallorca island tour is the easiest way to see the mountain towns, beaches, and wineries outside Palma without renting a car or driving the winding roads yourself. We booked a private tour and were amazed at how much we saw in one day, from rocky coves to historic villages to a winery in the hills. Here’s where we went, what we tasted, and who should book this tour, plus the big mistake we almost made that would have ruined the trip.

Private Mallorca Island Tour From Palma: Overview

We booked the Secret Corners and Tastes of Mallorca private tour with YOLO Tours Mallorca, and our guide, Ernesto, picked us up right at our hotel in Palma at 9:00 a.m. He drove and guided us all day in a comfortable van with great air conditioning, so we could sit back and enjoy the mountain roads and some wine sampling instead of driving ourselves. We were back at our hotel by 3:30 in the afternoon, which gave us time to relax by the pool before our evening. We easily added this sunset catamaran cruise for that night: Best Boat Tour in Palma de Mallorca? Our Catamaran Review

Since the Mallorca island tour is private, it’s just your group, and you can plan the day around what you want to see most. Ask for more beach time, a long lunch, or a winery when you book, and YOLO will help you customize your experience. We suggest booking directly with YOLO Tours Mallorca, but if you’d feel more comfortable booking through a bigger platform, the same tour is on GetYourGuide with free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead.

What’s the big mistake we almost made? Don’t book this tour for a Sunday. Most things around the island, and even in Palma, are closed. So, while you can still do the tour if it’s your only day, you’ll get better value out of the experience on other days. We had initially booked for Sunday, and fortunately, Ernesto let us know this, and we rescheduled for Saturday instead.

Mallorca Island Tour Stops: Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller, and a Winery

Your exact stops will vary, but tours on this side of the island usually include some mix of Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller, Port de Sóller, Fornalutx, and the Mirador de sa Foradada viewpoint. Our journey took us from mountain villages to the coast to a vineyard in the hills, and we were so impressed by how much variety the island offers.

Valldemossa, Mallorca

Valldemossa gives you a great taste of the mountain villages. We wandered the cobblestone streets, grabbed a coca de patata from Ca’s Forner (a soft potato bun dusted with powdered sugar), and stopped at a lookout where you can see a whole village and church tower against the mountain backdrop.

Deià, Mallorca

Deià is a tiny hillside village and an easy, pretty stop on the way along the coast. It’s also where you’ll find La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, which is renowned for its restaurant, El Olivo, located in a 17th-century olive mill.

Port de Sóller Beaches

We fell in love with Sóller and can’t wait to go back on our next trip to Mallorca. The beaches are on a horseshoe-shaped bay with a lighthouse at one end, cafes lining the street, and sailboats in the harbor. We stayed at Cala Ratjada for three nights (on the other side of the island) as our beach portion of the trip, which you can read about here: Cala Ratjada, Mallorca: Is It the Right Vibe for Your Trip? We’d love to go back, but we’ll also add a few nights near Port de Sóller next time.

Wine Tasting in Mallorca at Bodegas Àngel

We loved our stop at Bodegas Àngel. A local guide led us through a tasting of four of their wines on a shaded terrace in the hills, with jamón, queso, and bread included in the YOLO tour price. The setting was gorgeous and the wine was great, so we bought two bottles to take back to Palma for just $28 total. And if you’re into food and wine, we also highly recommend booking a food tour back in Palma. Here’s the one we loved: Best Palma de Mallorca Food Tour: Everything You Need to Know

Is a Private Mallorca Island Tour Worth It?

Yes. This is an experience that is much more enjoyable with a guide and driver. We paid about $700 for two people, which is worth the splurge for a private tour guide in a van instead of a big bus tour on narrow mountain roads with a large group. Everything went as smoothly as it gets, and exceeded our expectations. Ernesto was great, and we highly recommend booking with YOLO Tours Mallorca.

Who Should Book a Private Mallorca Island Tour?

Book this tour if you’re staying in Palma or stopping here on a cruise, you don’t want to rent a car, and you’d like an experienced guide to handle the planning and the mountain driving. YOLO can also pick you up at the cruise terminal or the airport. Best For: Couples and small groups who want an easy, flexible day outside Palma.

We paid about $700 for two people, including a winery tasting with meats, cheese, and bread. You can also build your own custom tour with YOLO.

How Long Is a Mallorca Island Tour?

Our private tour lasted about 6 to 6.5 hours with hotel pickup in Palma, and we were back by late afternoon with plenty of time to unwind before our evening plans.

Most Mallorca island tours from Palma visit the Tramuntana mountains on the west coast. Stops can include Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller, Port de Sóller, Fornalutx, and the Mirador de sa Foradada, and YOLO adjusts the route if you ask in advance.

Should You Book a Mallorca Tour on a Sunday?

You can if it’s the only day you have to explore Mallorca, but we would pick another day if possible. Most things on the island are closed on Sundays, so we’d save that day for the pool or the beach.
