Cala Ratjada restaurants line the Passeig Marítim, and from the outside they can start to look interchangeable, but they’re not. Some were touristy with mediocre service, and menus the size of phone books, while others had elevated dishes and excellent, friendly staff. Here’s where we’d send you for tapas, a high-end dinner, breakfast over the water, and the best happy hour deal in town.

Best Tapas in Cala Ratjada: eu.for.ia Tapas Concept & Cocktails

eu.for.ia Tapas Concept & Cocktails was one of our favorite meals of the trip and definitely the one we’d have gone back to if we’d had another night in town. We found it after looking at a few places nearby with enormous menus, huge crowds, and somewhat rude service. So we we’re glad we checked out a few options on the main walkway by the sea before deciding.

We sat in the covered outdoor area. The staff were friendly from the moment we sat down and the whole place had a fun, easy vibe. We ordered a stack of small plates and shared everything. We tried the croquetas, two little brioche sliders, a saffron rice dish with asparagus, a salmon ceviche in a bright green sauce, and a warm goat cheese salad with blueberries and walnuts. Every dish was delicious.

Best Upscale Dinner in Cala Ratjada: La Casita Bistrot

La Casita Bistrot is a fancier option and worth planning for. It’s small, it’s very popular, and we needed a reservation. It was full when we attempted to walked in, so we just easily made the reservation for the next night while we were there.

The dining room has stone archways and opens onto a little courtyard, so it feels tucked away even though it’s a block from the pedestrian walk. The food was fantastic. The pink tomato and beet tartar with toasted almonds and avocado was one of our favorite dishes. We also highly recommend their house croquetas, octopus carpaccio, and beef tartar. Starters were in the 7 to 20 euro range when we were there, which felt fair for the quality. If you only have one nice dinner in Cala Ratjada, make it this one and book ahead.

Best Breakfast in Cala Ratjada: The Sea Club

The Sea Club is right in the heart of town on the Passeig Marítim, and it’s our favorite pick for breakfast. The terrace is shaded with big umbrellas under an old olive tree and looks out toward the water. Our favorite part is that the breakfast menu offers eggs every way, benedictines, tostadas and sandwiches, tortillas and omelets, croissants, and bowls. This is a great place to end a morning walk on the pedestrian pathway and have a full breakfast or even a drink in the afternoon.

Best Drinks by the Beach in Cala Ratjada: Cucum Beach House

Cucum Beach House is the best spot for an afternoon drink and people watching. It’s right by Platja de Son Moll, the main sandy beach and the most crowded spot we saw in town. Cala Ratjada doesn’t have many sandy beaches, so this one fills up fast. But you don’t need to be on the sand to enjoy it. We sat outside at Cucum under the big shady umbrellas with drinks and watched the whole scene from a comfortable distance. The tables are wood, the whole place has a beach house look to it, and it’s perfect for people watching in the heat of the afternoon.

Best Happy Hour in Cala Ratjada: Café 3

Café 3 has the best happy hour deal we found, and the catch is that it doesn’t open until 8:00 pm. They promote espresso martinis, pornstar martinis, and strawberry frozen daiquiri for 6 euro, daily from 20:00 to 22:00. We went in to give them a try and they were great for the price. Cheap cocktails that are actually made well are always appreciated in a vacation town. The bar has stools out front along the walkway and a covered patio behind, with a DJ playing at night.

How to Pick Among the Cala Ratjada Restaurants on the Walkway

The Passeig Marítim or pedestrian walkway is lined with places to eat, and they are not all the same. The pattern we noticed is that the restaurants with the enormous laminated menus were also the ones where nobody seemed glad to see us. We looked, kept walking, and found a better option every time. The spots we’ve listed here had better menus and staff who seemed to care.

Everything we spent over three nights, without trying to budget, came to $1,500 for the two of us including accommodations, all meals, drinks, and activities.

Can You Walk to the Restaurants in Cala Ratjada?

Yes. Nearly everything is on or near the Passeig Marítim along the water. We walked it twice a day from a hotel at 1 to 1.5 miles each way and never needed a car.
