Lodge at Bryce Canyon Review: Is It Worth Staying Inside the Park?
The Lodge at Bryce Canyon is the only hotel inside Bryce Canyon National Park, and its location alone makes it one of the most sought-after stays in Utah. It’s just steps from the rim trail, so staying here means you can watch sunrise and sunset over the hoodoos without dealing with parking, shuttles, or an early morning drive from outside the park.
In this Bryce Canyon Lodge review, we cover the different room types, dining options, location advantages, and what it’s actually like to stay inside the park. We also explain how to get Lodge at Bryce Canyon reservations before they sell out, whether the price is worth it, and the best alternatives nearby if the lodge is fully booked.

Lodge at Bryce Canyon Reservations: How to Book
The Lodge at Bryce Canyon books up fast, especially for peak season dates in May through September. We booked 11 months in advance, as soon as our travel dates were confirmed, and recommend doing the same. Book directly at visitbrycecanyon.com. The reservation system opens on a rolling basis, so check when your specific dates become available and set a reminder. You can also book activities through that website if you’re staying longer.
Check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 AM. The lodge operates seasonally: the Main Lodge and Suites run from March 1 through November 30, the Sunrise Motel from late March through early November, and the Western Cabins from late April through mid-October. If your dates fall outside the main season, verify availability before making plans around a lodge stay.
Pro Tip: The lodge is cashless. All locations accept major credit and debit cards only. No cash transactions are processed on the property.

The Lodge at Bryce Canyon Room Types
Western Cabins
The Western Cabins sit between the main lodge building and the canyon rim, making them the most atmospheric option on the property. Each cabin has vaulted ceilings, a gas-log fireplace, two queen beds, a full bathroom, and a porch. They accommodate up to four guests and are a good choice for couples or families who want the full in-park experience.
Main Lodge Suites
The Main Lodge Suites are on the second floor of the historic main building and work well for families or small groups. Each suite has one king bed, a sleeper sofa, a sitting room, and a full bathroom. Rollaway beds and cribs are available on request. There is no elevator in the main lodge, and staff are available to help with luggage. The suites do not have canyon views.
Sunrise and Sunset Motel Rooms
The motel rooms are the most accessible option, with one king bed or two queen beds, a porch or balcony, and ADA accessible rooms available. The best part is that they are steps from the rim. For a one-night stay focused on the rim trail, these rooms are perfectly positioned and a good value relative to the cabins. This is the option we chose at the Sunrise Motel.
One honest note: the beds were due for replacement during our stay in 2026. The room and setting were excellent in every other respect, and the location more than compensated. It’s worth knowing going in that if you’re staying more than one night, the bed comfort is not ideal..

The Lodge at Bryce Canyon Restaurant and Dining Options
The Lodge at Bryce Canyon Restaurant
The main restaurant serves dinner and a breakfast buffet in a setting that fits the property well. Dinner was good during our visit. The restaurant serves alcohol with dinner, which is worth knowing if you’re planning to eat on-site in the evening.
The breakfast buffet is a practical way to start a day in the park. But there was a mad rush for breakfast right after sunrise when it opened at 7 am. So we opted for the coffee shop.
Valhalla Pizzeria and Coffee Shop
Valhalla is the on-site coffee and pizza shop. The lattes and croissants in the morning were excellent, though the egg sandwiches were a bit rubbery. For the evening, grab a pizza and take it to the rim at sunset. Valhalla also carries craft beer and Underwood canned wine, but only served with food.
Food Truck and General Store
The food truck operates on the property for quick meals and snacks. The General Store carries beer, basic groceries, snacks, and supplies for the trail. It’s a convenient option for stocking up before an early morning on the rim or picking up something to drink and some snacks in the evening. They also had hot dog fixings and some other options.

Is the Lodge at Bryce Canyon Worth It?
Yes. The location is everything. You walk to the rim for sunset, set an alarm, and walk back for sunrise. No parking, no shuttle, no early drive from outside the park. And the amenities are also quite nice, especially the food options, at least for being inside the park.
Two things worth knowing: the beds in the Sunrise Motel rooms needed replacing when we visited. Wi-Fi exists but don’t count on it in the rooms. Neither changed our answer. Definitely book it.
Bryce Canyon Hoodoos: What You’re Coming to See
Hoodoos are tall, thin spires of rock formed by millions of years of erosion. Bryce Canyon has the largest concentration of hoodoos anywhere on Earth. The main amphitheater is visible from the rim trail and contains thousands of them, ranging in color from deep orange at the base to pale white at the tips. The formations change dramatically with the light: orange and pink at sunrise, bright and saturated at midday, warm and long-shadowed at sunset.
The rim trail between Sunrise Point and Sunset Point gives you a continuous view of the amphitheater from above. Descending into the canyon on the Navajo Loop or Queen’s Garden trails puts you inside the formations, which is a completely different experience and worth doing if you have a second day.

Bryce Canyon Hiking: Trails for Every Level
Bryce Canyon’s elevation is about 8,000 feet, which means the air is thinner than most visitors are used to. Pace yourself, carry more water than you think you’ll need, and check the weather before heading out. Lightning is a year-round risk and conditions can change quickly.
We stuck to the rim trail during our one-night stay, which was the right call for us and is perfect for seniors, families, or anyone looking for a relaxed but visually rewarding visit. The full trail covers the amphitheater from above without any significant elevation change. For those who want to go deeper, the in-canyon trails below are a step up in difficulty but accessible to most reasonably fit hikers.

Bryce Canyon Horseback Riding
Canyon Trail Rides operates guided horseback and mule tours directly from the lodge, running April through October. Two options are available: a 2-hour ride and a 3-hour ride, both of which descend into the Bryce Amphitheater through the hoodoo formations. It’s a different way to experience the canyon than hiking and one of the more memorable activities available at the park. Book through Canyon Trail Rides at canyonrides.com, not through the lodge directly.
Bryce Canyon in One Day: How to Structure Your Stay
One night at the lodge is enough to see Bryce Canyon at its best. Arrive in the afternoon, check in, and walk to the rim for a first look at the hoodoos. Grab dinner at the restaurant or pick up a pizza from Valhalla. Head back to the rim for sunset, which is after 8 PM in late spring and summer. The lodge posts exact sunrise and sunset times at check-in.
The next morning, be on the rim 15 minutes before the posted sunrise time. The pre-sunrise light is worth the early alarm. Walk the 0.5-mile rim trail between the two viewpoints, find a spot with a good tree or rock formation in the foreground for photography. We found Sunset Point less crowded at sunrise and the angle better for photographing the light as it hits the hoodoo formations.
After sunrise, grab coffee and a croissant from Valhalla and decide whether to hike into the canyon before checkout. Queen’s Garden is the least difficult in-canyon option at 1.8 miles round trip with about 450 feet of elevation change. It’s doable before an 11 AM checkout if you start early.
Bryce Canyon Accommodation Options if the Lodge Is Full
If the Lodge at Bryce Canyon is sold out for your dates, the Best Western Plus Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel was our second choice and the property we’d recommend as the best alternative. It’s located just outside the park in the small cluster of hotels near the entrance and is a reliable option with good amenities and high ratings for the area.
Bryce Canyon Pines is another option nearby, a smaller motel-style property that works well as a budget-conscious base. The trade-off with any property outside the park is that you’ll need to drive in each morning and deal with parking, which is manageable but adds friction compared to walking to the rim from the lodge.
Stargazing at Bryce Canyon National Park
Bryce Canyon is one of the best stargazing destinations in the country. The park is far from city light pollution, and the National Park Service designates it as an International Dark Sky Park. On a clear night the Milky Way is visible with the naked eye above the hoodoos. The lodge offers ranger-led stargazing programs during the season. Check the schedule at check-in.
Frequently Asked Questions: The Lodge at Bryce Canyon
How do you make Lodge at Bryce Canyon reservations?
Book directly at visitbrycecanyon.com. The lodge fills up fast for peak season, especially May through September. We booked 11 months in advance as soon as our dates were confirmed. Check when the reservation window opens for your specific dates and book as soon as it does.
What are the room types at the Lodge at Bryce Canyon?
The lodge offers three room types: Western Cabins with gas-log fireplaces and two queen beds, Main Lodge Suites on the second floor of the historic main building, and Sunrise and Sunset Motel Rooms with porches or balconies. All room types are a short walk from the rim trail.
Is there Wi-Fi at the Lodge at Bryce Canyon?
Yes but it’s very limited. The lodge intentionally offers no television. It’s designed as a screen-free retreat. For most guests on a short national park stay, it’s fine, but come prepared if you need connectivity.

The Rim Trail between Sunrise Point and Sunset Point is the easiest and most accessible option: It’s mostly flat with continuous views of the hoodoo amphitheater. Queen’s Garden is the best first in-canyon hike at 1.8 miles round trip with 450 feet of elevation change. Both are accessible directly from the lodge.
Can you do Bryce Canyon in one day?
One night is perfect to see the park’s highlights. You can catch both sunset and sunrise on the rim trail, do the easy rim walk, and have time for a short in-canyon hike before checkout. For a more complete hiking experience, two nights gives you a full day in the park. See our complete one-day guide here:
