Celebrity Ascent Ship Review: Is It Worth the Premium Price?
Even though we’re seasoned travelers, the Celebrity Ascent was the first cruise Theo and I took together. So this review isn’t about comparing it to every ship at sea. It’s about the onboard experience from the room to the restaurants to the amenities and more.
Overall, we were really impressed. Celebrity Ascent felt stylish, comfortable, and genuinely easy to enjoy – with plenty to do but none of the loud, over-the-top party vibes that turn some travelers off cruising in the first place. Still, we learned some lessons along the way and think there are some key things future travelers should know to maximize your experience onboard. Here is what we loved the most, what we’d skip, and the one specific cabin issue that nearly ruined our sleep.

First a note: There’s so much to know about planning a cruise. So, we want to recommend our absolutely fantastic cruise planner, Julie. This is not sponsored. We love to plan our own travel, but Julie found us deals and gave us invaluable recommendations that made the experience even better.
First Impressions of the Ship
We sailed Celebrity Ascent, which is part of the Edge Series, in February 2026 out of Fort Lauderdale. The ship has signature features like the Infinite Veranda, Magic Carpet, and Eden, along with suite-only spaces in the Retreat.
Celebrity Ascent felt large enough to have true variety for our 10 nights aboard on the Southern Caribbean route, but not so big that it felt like a floating city block. That matters to us. With around 3,000 passengers, it had plenty to explore, but we were never overwhelmed by the layout. After the first day, it felt intuitive to get around, and we quickly found our favorite spots.
We never got bored. There was entertainment, music, cocktails, and enough going on each day and evening that the ship felt social. But the energy stayed more relaxed than rowdy. We danced, sang along, did the trivia, had martinis, and definitely had some fun nights, but this did not feel like a spring break cruise or a late-night party scene.

Why We Loved the Infinite Veranda
Let’s start with the most debated feature on the ship. The Infinite Veranda is one of the most polarizing parts of the layout. Rather than a traditional, outdoor balcony, the room extends to the veranda indoors and then a large window comes down half-way. Celebrity promotes it as a design that brings the outdoors into the room, and passenger reviews are all over the place, with some people loving the extra interior space and others strongly preferring a traditional balcony. We’re in the first camp. We absolutely loved it.
I know that’s not universal. Other members of our group said they still prefer a traditional balcony, and I understand why. But for us, the Infinite Veranda made the room feel bigger and more usable. Instead of a separate little outdoor area we might only use occasionally, it felt like the cabin itself stretched toward the sea.
That was the big win. We especially loved being able to sleep with it open and hear the sound of the ocean at night. It gave the room a calm, open feeling that really added to the cruise experience for us.

Cabin Comfort, Storage, and Sleep Quality
Overall, we thought the cabin worked well for two people. The bed was very comfortable for us because we tend to prefer a firmer mattress. That said, I could easily see some travelers wanting something softer. (A mattress pad would have made it even better).
Storage was also good for two. Once unpacked, the room stayed functional and didn’t feel cluttered. That seems to line up with a lot of what other passengers mention too. Reviews frequently call out Edge-class cabins for having smart storage and bathrooms that feel better designed than expected for cruise ship rooms.

Our one real negative was the noise. We had a very loud noise from deep in the ship every night that disrupted our sleep. That’s the only issue that consistently bothered us on the ship. To Celebrity’s credit, they did give us a future cruise credit for the inconvenience, which we appreciated. And it’s worth noting that cabin noise is something other passengers have mentioned, even if the exact source can vary by cabin location and conditions.
Our honest opinion: We were very happy with the room overall, but I would pay close attention to cabin location before booking. We were on the 7th floor aft. Maybe avoid those rooms, but I can’t be certain because we never did find out the exact issue.

Elevators and Stairs
The elevators on Celebrity Ascent are incredibly fast and efficient, even for claustrophobic folks like us, so that’s fantastic. Even though we had noise in our room, being on Deck 7 or 8 is the sweet spot if you prefer to stay active. Since many of the main dining rooms and the Grand Plaza are on Decks 3, 4, and 5, and the pool and buffet are on Decks 14 and 15, being in the middle means you can easily take the stairs. I only used the elevator twice during the entire 10-day trip, and we both thought the stairways themselves were fantastic.
We Did Not Book the Retreat
We didn’t stay in the Retreat, so I’m not going to pretend we can review it from experience. From what we saw, it definitely looked exclusive and polished. If you want a more private, suite-style cruise experience, that’s clearly the lane it’s built for.
Visually it did look elevated, but we never felt like we needed it – and we are people who like a little exclusivity. That’s actually one of the more impressive things about Celebrity Ascent. We felt like the included experience was already strong enough that we weren’t walking around thinking we’d made a mistake by not upgrading. In fact, we never felt pressured to upgrade at all, and rarely did, other than the premium drink package and two specialty dining options (we’ll discuss those in another post).

Eden Was Our Favorite Indoor Space
If we had to pick one indoor spot on the ship that best captured the vibe we loved, it would be Eden. This was easily our favorite indoor space. Eden has a garden-like look, but it doesn’t feel kitschy. It has high ceilings, huge windows facing the sea, a classy atmosphere, quirky decor, and some of the best ambiance anywhere on the ship. It felt tucked away and sophisticated.
We loved the craft cocktails. We loved the live music. We loved the way it felt day into night. The café in Eden was good for a snack or a light lunch, though we wouldn’t look at it as a spot for a full meal.
Pro Tip: Make a point to get to Eden just before the entertainment starts so you can get a good seat. That was absolutely worth doing.
Alternative: There’s also seating on the second level, where you can look down over the bar and entertainment area, which gives you another good option if the lower level fills up.

Magic Carpet Surprised Us in the Best Way
I fully expected Magic Carpet to feel gimmicky, but it didn’t. In fact, it ended up being our favorite place to sit on the whole ship when it was positioned high up. Celebrity markets Magic Carpet as one of the signature features of the Edge Series, and in real life, it’s much more appealing than it sounds on paper.
When it was at its highest position, extending out over the side of the ship, it felt surprisingly private. We could sit with a drink, take in the ocean, watch the sunset, or look at the port without feeling crammed into a generic outdoor deck setup. That became a daily ritual for us that was so calming.
We never tried any of the dinners here, so this is strictly a drinks-and-views review. But for that purpose, it was excellent. The only downside was that it definitely got crowded around sunset. Still, the bartending held up well even when it was busy, which made a difference.
The Other Bars and Lounges We Actually Used
There were a ton of spots to grab a drink or relax, but we definitely had our go-to locations. After Magic Carpet, our second favorite outdoor social area was the space around the Sunset Bar. We found seats off to the side, out of the direct sun, where we could still enjoy the light, watch the evening scene, and get drink service.
Indoors, we loved Martini Bar. This ended up being one of our favorite places for people-watching and just easing into the night. We really enjoyed the music and entertainment there too. Trivia, live performances, and the overall energy made it one of the most consistently fun spots on board. We had a great time dancing and trying a range of martinis.
We also liked the sports bar just above the Martini Bar for catching games, which gave the ship a nice balance. It was nice to have at least one casual place to check in on sports and shift gears a bit.

Pool Deck and Outdoor Spaces
The pool deck worked well for us overall. One thing I really enjoyed was the walking path around the pool. It made the area feel more usable and a little less static than some ship pool decks can feel. There were plenty of loungers, even when the space got busier, and we never felt stressed about finding a place to sit.
We had considered renting one of the private poolside areas, and I can see that being useful for a larger group. But for us, it wasn’t necessary. That sums up a lot of our onboard experience. We noticed extra-cost upgrades, but we rarely felt like we needed them to enjoy the ship.
There was one outdoor space we wanted to love more than we actually did: the sofas on the level above the pool overlooking the pool area. In theory, that sounded perfect. In reality, it was usually too windy when we tried to use it. That’s worth knowing because some of the most attractive outdoor seating on newer ships can end up being less comfortable than it looks depending on wind and weather.

Spa and Fitness Center
We didn’t book any spa treatments on Celebrity Ascent because the pricing felt high for us, though they did offer discounts on port days that could make it more appealing if you’re interested in a treatment onboard. We walked through the spa several times on the way to the gym, and it looked polished, calm, and very much in line with the ship’s overall upscale feel.
We got much more use out of the fitness center. The gym was clean and well equipped, with plenty of cardio and strength machines, although it was more crowded than we expected. I used it on all four sea days and especially loved the ocean views from the elliptical, which made working out feel more enjoyable. My one complaint was the free-weight area. I really wish there had been more light weights and more space dedicated to dumbbells, because there never seemed to be enough available when I was there.

Customer Service on Celebrity Ascent
Customer service on Celebrity Ascent was excellent across the board. This may have been our first cruise together, but it was not our first time traveling, and the service really stood out.
What we liked most was how consistent it was. The housekeeping team was warm and courteous, even passing us in the hallway. Staff would stop, greet you, and make space for you to pass, which sounds small but says a lot about the tone onboard. At the bars and restaurants, service was just as strong. It was friendly, efficient, and never felt fake.
We also appreciated how quickly staff handled things when something was off. When I had a dish I didn’t like, they took it away immediately and brought me another option without making it awkward. That kind of service made the ship feel well run from start to finish.

The App and Onboard Logistics
We liked managing everything through the app and SeaPass card. It made the cruise feel simple in a good way. We could check what was happening each day, review ship amenities, see port information, keep track of excursions, and generally stay organized without feeling like we were constantly chasing paper schedules.
That said, for travelers who prefer to stay offline, there was still a printed daily schedule delivered, which I thought was a nice touch. Not everyone wants to use their phone on vacation, and it’s good that the ship still accommodates both styles.

Embarkation, Disembarkation, and Port Flow
Our embarkation experience was excellent. We boarded in the last available time slot because we had worked that day, and weirdly, it turned out to be perfect. There was only one other family boarding when we arrived, so the process felt almost effortless, and we still had plenty of time.
Disembarkation was more crowded, which is pretty normal. We chose to carry our own luggage off, so we were in line with a lot of other people doing the same thing. Even so, it moved smoothly, and we were in an Uber within about ten minutes after requesting it from the port.
That efficiency carried over into port days too. One thing we really appreciated was that we had no lines getting on and off the ship in the 5 ports we visited on this trip.

Who Will Love Celebrity Ascent? Who Won’t?
This ship makes the most sense for:
• Couples and groups of friends
• First-time cruisers who want a polished experience
• Travelers who like style, good cocktails, and a more relaxed social scene
• People who want luxe-for-less rather than ultra-luxury prices
I don’t think this is the best ship for families looking for lots of kid-focused attractions. That was actually a plus for us, but it’s worth stating clearly. If you want waterslides, constant family programming, or a cruise built around children’s activities, this probably isn’t the best fit.
I also think travelers who feel strongly attached to a traditional balcony should think carefully before booking an Infinite Veranda stateroom. And if you’re looking for more of a party scene, this wasn’t the trip for it. Don’t get me wrong, we had lots of fun, dancing, singing, and activities, it just wasn’t a big party scene.

Would We Sail Celebrity Ascent Again?
I think you know the answer is yes, absolutely. But that surprised us. We’ve traveled to 80 countries and love independent DIY itineraries. We still prefer that, but we had so much fun, and were so impressed with the ship and the customer service, we would definitely come back and highly recommend it to others.
