Tallinn Estonia: 7 Top Places to Eat and Drink

The capital of Estonia is like a storybook setting with its medieval-themed old town — and it also has a vibrant art scene and tech culture with lots of modern flair. We fell in love with Tallinn and think you probably will, too. Here are the top places we ate or grabbed a drink on our trip to this Baltic town.

We’re real travelers posting about our authentic experiences to help you plan your next adventure.

1. Fotografiska

You’ll definitely want to check out the Telliskivi Creative City, Tallinn’s creative hub, which has all kinds of design shops, art studios, and cafes. While you’re here, you won’t want to miss the rotating photography exhibit in the Fotografiska. Although this is a museum, it also has a fantastic ambiance and a few options for cocktails and coffee. Be sure to grab a drink in their beautiful lobby or at the rooftop bar on the 6th floor, which has amazing views.

2. Olde Hansa

Tallinn’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site because it is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. In addition to exploring the Town Hall Square, St. Olaf’s Church, and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, you should keep the theme going with dinner at Olde Hansa. The restaurant embraces  the medieval theme through decor, costumes, and cuisine. Is it touristy? Absolutely. But sometime you just have to embrace it and have fun.

3. Balti Jaama Turg

This is the main food hall in Tallinn, and it has so many delicious and affordable options, we could’ve dined here every day for lunch and dinner. Balti Jaama Turg translates to Baltic Station Market, and it’s a hot spot for locals and tourists, offering a variety of cuisine, fresh produce, and artisanal products.

Our favorite spot was Pelmen for the delectable dumplings. These freshly made, hearty pelmini came in meat and vegetarian options, and were served with sour cream or other dipping sauces. So delicious!

We also enjoyed the burgers at VLND. They were made from fresh, high-quality ingredients and hit the spot in the middle of a day exploring the city.

4. Humalakoda Microbrewery

Balti Jaama Turg isn’t just about food stands and eclectic market stalls, there’s also a fantastic microbrewery and taproom upstairs where you can try a variety of craft beers, ciders, wines, and cocktails. We had some great pub food at Humalakoda to go with our drink selections.

5. Parrot Speakeasy

This place was so much fun! It’s a speakeasy that’s accessible through a secret door in a restaurant of the same name. They don’t serve food, so plan to come here for a cocktail or two at the start or end of your night and enjoy the swanky, playful vibe. You can reserve your spot here.

6. Depeche Mode Baar

DM Baar is a quirky spot near the main square that is a shrine to the band Depeche Mode. It’s flat out bizarre but a lot of fun. The music, videos on display, lyrics on the walls, photos, and drinks are all DM themes because …. why not?

7. Gelato Ladies

Who doesn’t like to end the day with a little ice cream? This gelato place made us happy with plenty of unique, delicious flavors.

Have you been to Tallinn, Estonia? What’s your favorite place for dinner or drinks?
